The Five Things Tidy

“Clean the room” is one impossible blob. This run breaks it into five categories and walks you through one at a time. Nothing is saved — close the tab and it's gone.

Five rounds. Each round, you hunt for one kind of thing only — everything else is allowed to keep lying there.

  1. 1.Trash
  2. 2.Dishes
  3. 3.Laundry
  4. 4.Things that have a home
  5. 5.Things without a home

This follows the five-things method from KC Davis's How to Keep House While Drowning: when a room feels like pure mess, there are only ever five things in it.

Heads up: the timer runs only while this tab is open, and nothing about your run is saved. A tidy run is a one-shot thing.

Why five things, not “clean the room”?

“Clean the room” has no starting point, so the brain files it under impossible and nopes out. “Find only trash” is a search your eyes can actually run.

The method is KC Davis's, from How to Keep House While Drowning. Her point stands behind every round here: mess is not a moral failure, and care tasks don't have to be finished to be worth starting.
