Why brown noise for ADHD?

An ADHD brain treats every sudden sound as maybe-important — the door, the ping, the conversation two desks over. Each one gets a slice of your attention whether you asked for it or not.

A steady noise floor smooths all of that out. When the background is already occupied by one predictable sound, the sharp ones stop standing out — and stop stealing your focus. Brown noise does this with a deep, soft rumble a lot of ADHD brains find easier to live with than hissy static.

Brown, pink, or white — what's the difference?

  • Brown — deep and low, like distant thunder or a heavy waterfall. The favorite for focus and winding down.
  • Pink — the middle ground: softer than white, brighter than brown. Good if brown feels too muffled.
  • White — bright, even static. Masks the most, but some brains find it tiring after a while.

No wrong answer here — pick by ear, keep the volume just low enough that the room fades, and switch whenever it stops helping.
