Pick one container: a folder, box, or envelope big enough to matter. Everything important goes in it — no subcategories required.
Do not aim for a perfect archive. The folder only needs the documents that would be painful, slow, or expensive to replace.
- Passport, ID, birth and marriage certificates.
- Lease or mortgage papers, insurance policies.
- Bank and tax basics, vehicle documents.
- A note with key account and emergency numbers.
Photograph each item into one cloud folder with the same name. The digital copy handles ninety percent of requests; the paper exists for the rest.
The sixty-second test
The system passes if you can put any vital document in someone's hand within one minute.
- Store the folder somewhere grab-able, not buried.
- Tell one person you trust where it lives.
- Keep the digital copy in an app already on your phone.
