September is Monday as a month
August 24, 2026 · 3 min read
Short version
- September carries Monday energy — fresh, brief, and easy to blow.
- A full life renovation is how the energy gets wasted by October.
- One small reset, finished, beats ten ambitious ones, abandoned.
Monday, but thirty days long
September has a smell. New notebooks, cooler air, the cultural ghost of the school year whispering that it's time to get serious.
For my brain it's Monday stretched into a month — a wide, seductive blank page that feels like it owes me a new personality.
The energy is real. I've learned to respect it, because I've also learned exactly how I waste it.
January gets the attention, but September is the sneakier reset. It arrives with momentum built in — everyone around you is restarting something too.
The renovation fantasy
Every past September, I drafted a full renovation. New routine, new diet, new inbox system, new morning schedule — designed in one caffeinated evening by a version of me who has never once survived October.
- Week one: everything runs, beautifully.
- Week two: maintenance starts costing more than the results.
- Week four: silence, guilt, and a planner I can't look at.
The plan was never the problem. The surface area was.
The fantasy dies the same way every time: one missed day becomes a missed week, and the whole renovation gets declared a failure. Then I wait for January and try the same thing again.
Spending the energy on one thing
The fresh-start feeling is genuine fuel. The mistake is spreading it across ten fronts until it's too thin to move anything.
Last year I picked one reset: clear the doom pile on my desk and give it a rule. Nothing else got renovated, optimized, or reimagined.
One small thing, actually finished — and September finally paid interest instead of charging it.
Finishing one reset did something ten half-renovations never did. It made the next one easier to start.
This September's whole plan
- Pick one reset small enough to finish in a week.
- Let the other nine ideas wait on a list — they keep.
- Use the Monday energy; don't try to become Monday.
- Write the reset down where Future Me will trip over it.
October me doesn't need a new personality. He needs one clean surface and proof that a reset can survive.
If October arrives and the reset held, I get to pick a second one. That's the whole reward system.
